Teaching Kids Philosophy

Have you thought about teaching your children philosophy? The concepts of philosophy go well with a seeking, bright mind, and they are rarely brought up in pre-college classes. You can introduce these concepts at home or in the classroom  through regular literature. In the book, Big Ideas for Little Kids: Teaching Philosophy Through Children’s Literature – Thomas Wartenberg uses picture books to discuss it.

There is a syllabus for a class that was taught to second graders, for an example of how to structure your class, and on the website there are book modules as well. Make a philosophy class at your library or introduce high-minded concepts to kids that appear in picture books just while sitting on the couch! Check out the Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization; they have a teacher’s toolkit.
